How Therapy Works
If this is your first step in your therapeutic journey, congratulations, and welcome! Here's some general information about therapy.
Ready to begin?
The "Therapy Room" is a safe space
You are in control and set the pace for sessions
You don't need to have everything figured out beforehand
Your concerns are more common than you think
Therapists are trained to help, not judge
Therapy is collaborative, not advice-given
There's no "right way" to do therapy
After a consultation, there is no obligation to begin therapy
You've booked a consult!
Now what?
Here are some things to consider before the call:

Insurance.
Psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP. Please ensure you are covered for psychotherapy. If not, please bring that up during the call.
Private space.
Once sessions begin, make sure you have a private space with no distractions, and that your camera & audio work properly.
Reason why you booked.
What would you like support with? What are you wanting to address in therapy (concerns, goals, etc.)?
Frequency and commitment level.
How often would you like sessions? Typically, sessions are weekly, and progress can be a long journey requiring commitment. In reality, you shouldn't expect change after 1 or 3 sessions. Frequency is also adjusted based on availability and need.
Knowing the approach you are looking for.
Would you like to understand your emotions? Would you like to learn strategies to better manage overthinking? Do you like being challenged and developing new approaches to situations, or prefer being listened to and given a space to express yourself?
